Marty’s Song

Listen to Marty contemplate his return to campaign life, wondering what it might mean to have another chance — to fail.

Campaign

Marty Wulliver was burned while running a U.S. congressional campaign in Ohio’s 14th, and soon after burned out entirely from politics.  He was 24.  Sixteen years later, Marty is called back to Ohio, this time to manage the long-shot Senate campaign of his old O.S.U. roommate, Peter Smith, and reunites with his estranged college girlfriend, Barbara Lawson, now Peter’s press secretary. The candidate himself is never shown, so that the audience instead is thrown into the backstage world where Marty, Barbara, and a host of other caffeine-infused staffers wage the campaign of their lives.

Beyond just politics, Campaign is about the ability of people to change, the battle of idealism versus reality, the power of our fears, the thrill of taking them on, and what, ultimately, it means to win--in work, love and life.
